We have hit the ground running since Spring Break. Lots of learning taking place in our classroom and the students are really showing me they are ready for 4th grade! They have improved an incredible amount. It is exciting to see all their growth. Speaking of growth...they came back from Spring Break all a foot taller! :) I hope you and your families enjoyed some time together.
Math: We spent the last week doing some math inquiry on fractions. They have been working on placing fractions on a number line, comparing their sizes, and naming equivalent fractions. Many of them are great at identifying that 4/8, 5/10, 2/4, etc are all equivalent to 1/2. Fractions are such a goofy concept! Overall, they are doing really well! We will be moving into geometry next. Many of them are VERY excited. Literacy: Students learned about "Point of View" they learned about the first person and third person point of view. They are able to explain that first person is a character telling the story or that third person is the author/narrator telling the story. We briefly talked about second person and what second person entails but that most books we read are in first or third person. They have done a great job identifying what point of view their personal reading books are in! Writing: Students wrote an informational piece on the main idea of an article they read. They had to write a five or more paragraph essay and they ROCKED IT! I can't believe how far they are coming as writers! This week students will be writing another informative piece based on the question: How can people save water? I can't wait to see how they do! Social Studies: We finished up our PYP Theme: How We Organize Ourselves. Students finished the unit by researching a region of their choice. They had to write and illustrate about the climate, indigenous people, natural resources, and landforms in their specific region. Their projects turned out to be some of the best I have seen all year. They did a great job researching and then explaining their research. The pictures they drew to go along with their writing were OUTSTANDING. So proud of each one of them!! I wanted to say WOW! Our class did AMAZING during the Fun Run! It was so exciting to run along side all of them. They were troopers! A lot of them said they were sore the next day! :) Thank you for coming out to support our class! Also with testing around the corner, please do not let your child get worried or anxious about this. They are going to just fine! They just need a goodnight's sleep, a filling breakfast, and a smile on their face. They have nothing to worry about :) We will ROCK this together.
