This week we were able to get back into our rhythm and routine. I feel like they have grown so quickly since September and are really making progress as students. Students continue to work on multiplication and division using the associative property and distributive property. It blows my mind what these students are capable of doing. We will continue to work through module 3. Students know that on Friday, January 22nd they will have math quiz on their 0 and 1 multiplication facts. They need to be able to recognize any multiplied by 0 is zero and anything multiplied by 1 is that number. In order to pass their math facts test they will need 90 facts in five minutes. Students finished up their researching this week. They did such a wonderful job using articles, books and ipads to conduct their research on a natural disaster of their choice. They used that information to create a brochure on how the world works with an emphasis on force and motion. Students made connections to the book, Shilo. They learned that readers make text-to-self connections to help relate and understand books they read. Many students talked about animals they have rescued or situations where they saw animals being mistreated. In the story Shilo, a boy, Marty, is trying to rescue a dog that he feels has been mistreated. Students are also continuing to use proof in their answers by using evidence from the texts they read.
Enjoy the three day weekend!
