Last week was a week of fun filled activities! Students met with their buddies and had the chance to play a game that taught students the meaning of bully, pleasant, and unpleasant. The following day the students got to learn all about Vietnamese New Year thanks for an incredible parent who came in to do a wonderful presentation. The students learned a few words, got to see different outfits, and learn all about the foods they eat as well. Such a great cultural learning experience! Lastly, on Friday was Art Literacy! The students carved soap, which required them to be patient with their work. The classroom smelled great, though! Math: We continued with our module on area. Students will be taking their Math Module 4 Assessment on March 9th and 10th. After that we will be getting into our unit on fractions. Writing: Students continued working on their opinion pieces. They chose from a variety of writing prompts in which they then had to support their opinion with three reasons. Some of the students chose a topic such as: "Should children be able to ground their parents?" or "Are dogs or cats better pets?". They were very excited to write about why their opinion is convincing. Literacy: We learned that authors leave messages or lessons in their stories. We learned what about different themes found in stories such as: compassion, friendship, honesty, and respect. We talked about what the word moral meant and tried to find the moral of several books we read.
