We made it through the first week jitters, and I can't tell you how proud I am of each one of these students. They dove straight into school and are working hard on everything! I can tell this is going to be a great year because you have incredible children.
The focus for this week has been on getting to know one another and understanding "Who We Are" (to borrow from the Primary Years Program language). We have completed several activities that have allowed the students and me to get a better idea of who is in our class. Thanks to you as well for helping me out by writing a letter about your child. It gives me a much better idea of who I have in my classroom and ideas of how I can best support them. We are working hard as a class to support one another and value each other's differences. I can tell you that our class has already received nine compliments (YES NINE!!) from teacher's around the school for their positive behavior, quiet lines, and for following directions. Woo hoo! Way to go! Make sure you tell your child that you're proud of them! I also watched two students look out for their classmates by helping a student find our class lunch table and by praising a student for trying their best. :) Starting next week we will dive into math. You will begin to see math homework come home each night. This might be new for your child as your child's second grade class may have done math homework differently. It important they bring their math homework back the next day to turn in. We have talked about their responsibility of turning in homework on time and doing their best to not forget it at home. Please support your child in creating that life long habit! They also know their homework is to come home in their red homework folder and return back to school in their red homework folder. This helps keep papers from being crumpled and/or lost! I look forward to seeing you all again at Curriculum Night, Thursday, September 17th from 6:30-8:00 PM. Remember this is for adults only! Have a wonderful weekend, Miss. Hodgkinson
